‘it’s fuelled by a quiet anger at the inequalities in our society. It’s this anger that drives the piece – and lingers in the memory.’ - John Murphy

★★★★ THE guardian
Chicken Soup. opened at the Sheffield Crucible on the 8th February 2018 and enjoyed a sell-out run until 3rd March 2018.
The play follows three women who established a soup kitchen in a Rotherham community in the height of the miners strike and continue to run it for 32 years.
It’s a play about enduring friendship. A play about Brexit. And a play about collective spirit.
Chicken Soup was co-written with Ray Castleton, a Sheffield local, who I met one night in the pub after a performance of Operation Crucible.
It was the first piece commissioned for the Crucible by artistic director Rob Hastie and was directed by Bryony Shanahan (Operation Crucible, Bitch Boxer) and designed by Sophia Simensky (Operation Crucible).
